There’s something about adding a beauty device to your skincare routine that makes your nightly ritual feel a little more luxurious. Instead of simply applying your serum and moisturizer, you’re giving yourself ten minutes to slow down, relax, and invest in your skin.
That’s exactly what drew me to the CurrentBody Skin LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2.

LED light therapy has become one of the most talked-about at-home skincare treatments, particularly when it comes to maintaining firmer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin. But with so many LED masks available, it can be difficult to know which ones are actually worth the investment.
The CurrentBody Series 2 caught my attention because it combines three wavelengths of light—633nm red, 830nm near-infrared, and 1072nm deep near-infrared—with 236 LEDs. CurrentBody designed the mask specifically around visible signs of skin aging, and its newer Series 2 model adds deep near-infrared light compared with the original version.
So, is it actually worth adding to your skincare routine? Let’s take a closer look.

What Is the CurrentBody Skin Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask?
The CurrentBody Skin Series 2 is an at-home LED red light therapy face mask device designed to target the appearance of common signs of aging.
Unlike an exfoliating treatment or a traditional face mask, LED therapy doesn’t work by physically removing anything from the surface of your skin. Instead, the device exposes your skin to specific wavelengths of light.
The Series 2 uses:
- 633nm red light
- 830nm near-infrared light
- 1072nm deep near-infrared light
It contains 236 LED bulbs in total: 110 red, 110 near-infrared, and 16 deep near-infrared. CurrentBody lists the power density at 30 mW/cm².
The idea is that these different wavelengths reach different depths of the skin and support processes associated with skin renewal, collagen production, firmness, and overall skin appearance.

What Does Red Light Therapy Actually Do?
Red light therapy is a form of photobiomodulation, meaning cells are exposed to specific wavelengths of light that can influence cellular activity.
For skincare, the goal isn’t an overnight transformation. Instead, consistent LED treatments are intended to support gradual improvements in the appearance of the skin.
The 633nm red light is associated with collagen-related skin benefits and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The 830nm near-infrared light penetrates deeper than visible red light and is intended to support firmer, more resilient-looking skin.
The Series 2 also adds 1072nm deep near-infrared light, which CurrentBody says penetrates deeper into the skin and is intended to support collagen production and wrinkle reduction.
This combination is one of the features that makes the Series 2 particularly interesting compared with the original mask.

What Skin Concerns Can It Help With?
The Series 2 is primarily focused on the visible signs of skin aging.
That includes concerns such as:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Loss of firmness
- Uneven-looking skin
- Dullness
- Skin texture
- Loss of elasticity
CurrentBody’s own clinical testing reported improvements in several measures after an eight-week treatment period. In a 56-day study involving 35 subjects, CurrentBody reported improvements in elasticity, firmness, hydration, skin tone, redness, and wrinkle measurements.
It’s important to keep expectations realistic, though. An LED mask isn’t going to erase wrinkles or suddenly transform your face overnight. Think of it more as a consistent, long-term addition to your skincare routine.
The Clinical Testing Behind Series 2
One of the things I appreciate about the Series 2 is that CurrentBody has published results from testing on the device rather than simply making vague claims about what LED therapy can do.
Their SGS study followed 35 subjects for 56 days, with measurements taken at days 14, 28, 42, and 56. Participants used the mask for 10 minutes daily for the first 28 days and then five times per week for the following 28 days.
CurrentBody also reported:
- 57.1% improvement in biological elasticity
- 36% improvement in skin hydration
- 29.8% reduction in forehead wrinkle volume
- 25.7% reduction in crow’s-feet wrinkle volume
- 26.8% improvement in one measure of skin tone
These are results from CurrentBody’s clinical testing, so I would view them as encouraging rather than a guarantee of what every person will experience.
There was also a separate 2025 dermatological study involving 30 women ages 40–55 with mild-to-moderate signs of sun-induced aging. Participants used the Series 2 five times per week for 56 days. The study reported improvements in hydration, water loss, firmness, and elasticity.

How Do You Use the CurrentBody Series 2?
One of the biggest advantages of an LED mask is how easy it is to incorporate into your routine.
CurrentBody recommends:
1. Start with a sensitivity test.
This is particularly important if you’re new to LED therapy.
2. Cleanse and completely dry your skin.
The company recommends using the mask on clean, dry skin.
3. Put on the mask and adjust the straps.
The Series 2 has a flexible silicone design and an updated strap system intended to improve fit and coverage.
4. Turn it on.
Your treatment takes approximately 10 minutes.
5. Remove the mask and wipe it clean.
That’s it.
CurrentBody currently recommends using the Series 2 3–5 times per week and says visible results may be seen in as little as four weeks with consistent use.
Why I Like the 10-Minute Treatment
For me, one of the biggest selling points of an LED mask is that it doesn’t require a huge time commitment.
Ten minutes is easy to fit into a normal evening.
You can put it on while:
- Watching television
- Answering a few messages
- Reading
- Getting ready for bed
- Taking a few minutes to simply relax
And honestly, I think that matters.
The best skincare device isn’t necessarily the one with the most impressive list of features. It’s the one you’re actually going to use consistently.
Series 2 vs. the Original Series 1
If you’re wondering whether the newer Series 2 is actually different, it is.
The original Series 1 used two wavelengths:
633nm red + 830nm near-infrared
The Series 2 adds:
1072nm deep near-infrared
It also increases the total number of LEDs to 236 and has an updated flexible silicone design, improved strap system, and added chin strap intended to provide better full-face coverage.
So the Series 2 isn’t simply a cosmetic redesign. There are meaningful changes to the light configuration and physical design.

What I Wouldn’t Expect From an LED Mask
It’s easy to get caught up in before-and-after photos and expect dramatic results.
I wouldn’t approach the Series 2 that way.
LED therapy is better thought of as a gradual skincare treatment rather than an instant transformation.
You aren’t going to put the mask on tonight and wake up tomorrow with completely different skin.
Consistency is the important part.
And if you’re already investing in quality skincare—serums, moisturizers, sunscreen, and other treatments—an LED mask can become another tool in that overall routine.
Is the CurrentBody Series 2 Worth It?
If you’re serious about at-home skincare technology and you’re specifically interested in fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, elasticity, and overall skin appearance, I think the Series 2 is an interesting device to consider.
The combination of three wavelengths, 236 LEDs, flexible silicone construction, and published clinical testing makes it a more substantial investment than a basic LED mask.
But whether it’s worth the price ultimately comes down to how committed you are to using it consistently.
For me, the appeal isn’t about chasing perfection.
It’s about creating a skincare ritual that feels like an investment in myself.
Ten minutes a few times a week doesn’t feel overwhelming—and when you’re already passionate about skincare and taking care of your skin, that consistency can become something you actually look forward to.
My Final Thoughts
I think the best beauty routines are the ones that make you feel good while also supporting the skin you’re in.
The CurrentBody Skin Series 2 fits into that philosophy beautifully.
It’s not magic. It’s not going to replace sunscreen, a good skincare routine, or professional treatments when they’re appropriate. But as an at-home LED skincare ritual, it offers an easy way to incorporate red and near-infrared light therapy into your routine.
And sometimes, the little rituals we consistently make time for are the ones that make the biggest difference—not just in how our skin looks, but in how we feel about taking care of ourselves. Your skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, ten quiet minutes is enough.
